Did you know that 90% of your gel blaster’s performance depends on the gel blaster balls you use? That’s why choosing high-quality gel balls, and properly hydrating and storing them, is the first step to improving your blaster’s performance. In this blog, Cyber trigger will share how to correctly prepare gel balls to help your gel blaster operate at its best!
How to choose the high-quality gel beads
Gel balls may look the same on the surface, but their performance can vary significantly. So, how can you tell if the gel balls you’ve chosen are the best? Here are a few key criteria to help you evaluate.
• Hardness
The hardness of gel balls is a crucial factor in enhancing the shooting stability and accuracy of gel blasters. A top-quality gel ball should have an average hardness of around 7kg, meaning it cannot be crushed with both hands. If the gel balls are too soft, they may deform during firing, leading to an unstable flight path that affects trajectory and accuracy. Additionally, gel balls with insufficient hardness are more likely to break inside the chamber, causing blockages.
• Roundness
Roundness refers to the shape quality of gel balls, which plays a significant role in their performance. Ideally, high-quality gel balls should have a perfectly round shape. This roundness ensures consistent flight trajectories and minimizes the chances of wobbling during their path through the air.
If gel balls are irregularly shaped or not perfectly round, it can lead to instability upon firing, resulting in erratic shooting patterns and reduced accuracy. Additionally, irregularly shaped gel balls may also cause feeding issues in the magazine and blockages in the barrel, further impacting the overall performance of the gel blaster.
How to soak your gel blaster balls

The quality of water, the type of container, and the temperature can all affect the soaking process of gel balls. As a result, the soaking times for gel balls can vary significantly between different regions and seasons. It is highly recommended that gel blaster enthusiasts record the soaking time the first time they prepare gel balls. This way, they can follow their own tutorial for future soaking sessions, ensuring optimal performance each time.
1. Prepare a large container
You can choose a food storage container, a basin, or a foil tray. Regardless of what you select, remember to opt for a larger container to ensure that the gel balls soak evenly.
2. fill it with clean water and gel balls.
The quality of water can impact the absorption of gel balls. If you are in an area with good water quality, using tap water for soaking is acceptable. However, if the water quality in your area is poor, it’s advisable to use purified water. Otherwise, the gel beads may remain smaller, preventing the magazine’s gears from properly feeding them for shooting.
3. Waite for the gel balls to absorb the water and expand
Under normal temperature, it takes 3-4 hours for gel balls to fully expand, while some water beads with stronger absorbency may only require 2-3 hours. In cooler areas, the process may take longer. If you want to speed up the absorption process, you can use warm water or even hot water around 40 degrees Celsius. However, it’s important to note that if you use hot water to soak the gel balls, you should use them all at once and not store any that have been soaked in hot water.
4. Dehydrate the gel balls once they have expanded to a size of 7.35-7.40mm.
7.35mm-7.40mm is the recommended optimal size for gel balls. If you have a caliper or other measuring tools, you can easily determine the right time to remove them. Alternatively, you can use a gel ball sorting device to filter out the best-sized gel balls. Additionally, you can purchase special gel balls that transform from white to clear as they absorb water. When they become completely transparent, they have reached their optimal size.
After removing them, remember to dehydrate the gel balls. You can place the not fully dried gel balls into a filter bag or stocking, then swing your arm to shake off the excess water, just like a washing machine. Keep in mind to spray a little water on the gel balls when using them to prevent them from drying out and breaking inside the chamber.
How to store the gel balls properly
After dehydrating the gel balls, place them in an airtight container and store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. It’s important to check their condition regularly. Generally, well-hydrated gel balls can be stored for 2 weeks to a month.
